First Time in Antalya: A Practical Guide to Arriving and Getting Around

Antalya is not a single town — it is a long coastline of resorts, an old city, mountains and ancient ruins, all served by one busy airport. For a first-time visitor, the most useful thing to understand before you land is not where to eat, but how the region is laid out and how far apart things really are. Get that right and the trip runs smoothly from the first hour.

Antalya Airport (AYT) serves an enormous stretch of coastline, not just the city. That is why "how do I get to my hotel?" has such different answers depending on where you are staying — the same airport is the arrival point for a resort fifteen minutes away and one three hours away. Knowing your destination's real distance from the airport is the single most useful fact for planning your arrival.

Roughly, and from the airport:

• Antalya city, Lara and Kundu — close, around 15–30 minutes. City hotels, the old town, and the nearest beach resorts.
• Belek — about 35 minutes east. Golf and luxury family resorts.
• Side and Manavgat — around an hour east. Ruins and long beaches.
• Kemer — 45–60 minutes west, into the mountains-meet-sea scenery.
• Alanya — around two hours east, a resort town in its own right.
• Kaş and Kalkan — three-plus hours west, quieter and more boutique.

The point is simply that the coast is long. A "trip to Antalya" can mean very different drives, and that shapes how you plan both your arrival and any day trips.

Your options depend on your plans:

• Private transfer — the simplest way from the airport to your hotel, and for day trips where you want door-to-door comfort without driving.
• Taxis — fine for short local hops, though metered and less predictable for longer journeys.
• Dolmuş (shared minibus) — cheap and local, good for short coastal hops between towns, less so for reaching specific hotels or the airport with luggage.

• Know your hotel's exact name and area, not just the town — many resorts have dozens of hotels spread along a strip.

• Carry your booking details and a driver contact for the arrival, so meeting your transfer is effortless.
