Private Yacht Charter Antalya - Whole Boat Plus Hotel Transfer

Two completely different things get sold under the words "boat trip" in Antalya, and mixing them up is how people end up disappointed.

The first is the shared day boat. You buy a seat, you board with eighty to two hundred other people, the sound system runs from the moment the lines are cast off, there is a foam party at some point, and the swim stops last exactly as long as the schedule says. Travellers who did not know what they were buying write the same reviews every summer: music too loud to talk over, not enough seats, queues for the toilets, a route decided by somebody else. Plenty of people love it. It is a party product, and it is cheap because it is sold by the head.

The second is a private charter, and that is what this page is about. You take the whole boat. The price is for the vessel, the captain and the crew for a block of hours, not for a seat. Two people can charter, and so can twenty-four. Nobody else boards. There is no fixed swim time, no microphone, no schedule you have to hold to. If the water at the second bay is glass and the kids do not want to get out, you stay. If you want to skip a stop and go straight to lunch at anchor, you say so and the captain does it. You choose the playlist, or you choose silence.

That difference is the entire product. Everything else - the boat model, the route, the lunch - follows from it.

Two things happen when you book here. Second, the transfer from your hotel to the marina and back is part of the same booking, in a private vehicle, priced per vehicle rather than per person. That matters more than it sounds. A charter that starts at 09:30 in Kemer and a hotel in Side are ninety minutes apart, and the single most common way a charter day goes wrong is a taxi that does not show up, a driver who does not know which gate of the commercial port the marina entrance is behind, or a shared shuttle that collects five other families first. One booking, one confirmation, one WhatsApp thread, one company answerable for both halves of the day.

Antalya has three realistic departure points for a private charter, and the choice changes the day more than the boat does.

The old harbour, sometimes written Kaleiçi, is the small semi-circular basin directly below the old town walls. It is a genuinely ancient anchorage - the curve of the quay is Hellenistic in origin and it served as Antalya's working port through Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman centuries. It is roughly a hundred metres across, so it takes smaller yachts and traditional wooden gulets rather than large motor yachts.

Sailing from here gives you the classic Antalya coastal profile: the travertine falez cliffs with the city sitting on top of them, the Lower Duden waterfall dropping straight off the cliff into the sea near Lara, Sican Adasi (Rat Island) out in the gulf, and the coves running west toward Konyaalti. Boarding is a five-minute walk from Hadrian's Gate and the old town hotels. The trade-off is that the water in the gulf close to the city is good but not the best on this coast, and the harbour is busy in high summer.

Setur sits in the Buyuk Liman area of Konyaalti, tucked inside the commercial harbour behind a very large breakwater, about ten kilometres west of the centre and around thirty kilometres from the airport. It is a full-service marina - roughly 385 berths across water and hardstanding, Five Gold Anchors from the Yacht Harbour Association and a Blue Flag - and because of the breakwater it is the most weather-protected boarding point of the three.

Larger and more modern motor yachts berth here, so if your group is twelve or more, or you want a boat with proper cabins, air conditioning and a flybridge, this is usually where it is. Routes head west along the Konyaalti shore toward Topcam and Calticak and the Beldibi coves, where the water is noticeably clearer than in front of the city.

Kemer is about forty-five minutes west of Antalya and its marina, right in the town centre on Yali Caddesi, is one of the better-equipped on the Turkish coast with around 450 berths. It is the gateway to the Olympos-Beydaglari Coastal National Park, and that is why serious charter customers choose it.

South of Kemer the mountains come down to the sea and the coast turns into a run of bays with no road access at all: Kiris and its cave, Ay Isigi (Moonlight) Bay, Alacasu, known locally as Cennet Koyu or Paradise Bay, and then the ancient harbours of Phaselis, a city founded in the seventh century BC where you can anchor in a Lycian harbour basin and swim off the boat. Further south you pass Olympos and Cirali. The water here is a different colour to the water in front of Antalya. If clear water is your priority, board at Kemer.

One route worth naming and being honest about: Suluada, the small island off Adrasan with pale coral sand that gets marketed as the "Turkish Maldives". It is genuinely beautiful and it is genuinely far. From Kemer it swallows a full day of steaming with little time in the water. It is normally chartered from Adrasan, and we will tell you that rather than sell you a day of engine noise.

Private charter in Antalya covers four broad categories, and the right answer depends on your group, not on the photos.

Motor yacht. Fastest and the most bays per day. Modern interiors, generous sun decks, usually air conditioning below. Best when you want to cover distance - Kemer to Phaselis and back with three stops, for example - or when you want a smarter boat for a celebration. Typically the most expensive per metre.

Gulet. The traditional broad-beamed wooden vessel, and still the best value in Turkey once you are over about eight people. Gulets are wide, with huge shaded aft decks, cushioned sunbeds forward and a proper galley. They cruise at eight to ten knots, so you trade pace for deck space and character. For a family group of ten to sixteen who want to spend the day lying about, eating and swimming, a gulet beats a faster boat.

Catamaran. Two hulls, so it barely rolls and sits flat at anchor. This is the answer for anyone prone to seasickness and for families with toddlers who need a stable platform and a wide flat deck to move around on. It also gives roughly double the interior volume of a single-hull boat the same length.

Speedboat or day cruiser. For two to six people on a short private outing - a couple of hours along the cliffs, a sunset run, a swim at one bay. Cheap, fast, no shade, no galley.

Whole-boat capacity across the Antalya fleet realistically runs from four guests on a small day cruiser to around forty on a large gulet or party yacht. Tell us the head count first and we will match a boat, rather than starting from a boat and squeezing you into it.

Half day, roughly four hours. Usually two swim stops, one cave or headland, and a light lunch or mezze rather than a full spread. Departures are commonly around 09:30-10:00 or 14:00-14:30. This is the sensible choice if you have small children, if you are on a short city break, if your flight is the same evening, or if anyone in the group is genuinely unsure about a long day on a boat.

Full day, six to eight hours. Three or four stops, a proper lunch at anchor, time to actually snorkel rather than dip. Departures are usually 09:00-10:00 with a return between 16:00 and 18:00. From Kemer this is what unlocks Phaselis and the national park bays. If you are travelling as a group and the charter is the main event of the trip, book the full day - the incremental cost of the extra hours is small compared with the fixed cost of the boat and crew.

Sunset charter, two to three hours. Evening departure timed to the sunset, one swim stop while the light is still on the water, dinner service on the way back. Departure time slides through the season, roughly 17:30 in October and 19:30-20:00 in midsummer.

Morning pickup from your hotel. Coffee and water in the car; the drive is the least interesting part of the day, so we make it comfortable and quiet.

At the marina, you board, the captain runs through the boat - ladder, toilets, shade, life vests, where the drinks are - and asks what kind of day you want. This conversation is worth taking seriously. Say if you want a long lunch. Say if someone is a weak swimmer. Say if you want the anchor down in a shallow sandy bay so the kids can stand up. On a private boat the captain will build the route around that.

The first hour is coastal cruising with the boat trimmed out, everyone finding a spot. First anchorage is normally around an hour out, in a bay chosen for that day's wind. Swim, snorkel, ladder up and down, nobody counting minutes.

Around midday the boat moves to a second bay, often with a cave or a rock arch to nose into. Lunch is served at anchor - on a catered charter this is cooked on board, plated, with a meat, chicken or fish choice and vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free versions available if you flag them at booking. Unlimited soft drinks, tea, coffee and seasonal fruit come with it on most catered boats.

Early afternoon is the longest stop of the day and usually the best one, because the shared boats have turned for home. A last swim, then the run back with the breeze behind you. Back alongside in the marina, your driver is waiting - not called when you land, waiting - and you are back at the hotel with the evening still ahead of you.

On a catered private charter in Antalya the standard package covers a licensed captain and service crew, all fuel and marina fees for the agreed route, snorkel masks and fins, life vests, beach towels, sun loungers or cushioned deck mattresses, a swim ladder, a Bluetooth sound system you control, cold bottled water, and lunch with unlimited soft drinks, tea and coffee.

What is normally not included: alcohol. Most operators let you pre-order it or bring your own, and we will tell you which applies to the boat you have chosen. Also not included as standard: towed water toys, jet skis, diving equipment and crew gratuities.

Boats vary. Some have a shaded saloon and cabins with air conditioning, some are open. Some have a proper marine toilet and a freshwater shower on the swim platform, some have a very basic head. Ask before you book if any of that matters to you, and we will confirm it in writing rather than guessing.

It suits families with children, because you control the pace, the food and the noise, and because you can anchor in shallow water instead of deep. It suits couples, particularly on a sunset charter. It suits groups of six to twenty, where dividing the boat cost makes a private yacht cost roughly what a shared seat costs per head anyway. It suits birthdays, anniversaries, proposals and small corporate groups - tell us in advance and the crew will handle a cake, flowers or decorations discreetly. It suits older travellers who want shade, a chair, a calm boat and no music.

It does not suit people who specifically want the party. If foam, DJ and a crowd of strangers is the point of your day, book a shared party boat and enjoy it; a private charter will feel quiet by comparison. It does not suit anyone with severe seasickness who will not consider a catamaran or a calm-morning half day. It does not suit travellers who want maximum sightseeing per lira on a tight budget - the whole-boat model is only good value once you have a group or a specific reason to want privacy.

All transfers are private and priced per vehicle. Times below are typical door-to-quay in normal traffic; add twenty to thirty minutes in July and August, and add time for the Antalya ring road at rush hour.

To Kemer Turkiz Marina

• Kemer, Kiris, Camyuva and Beldibi hotels: 5-25 minutes
• Antalya Airport (AYT): about 60 km, 55-75 minutes
• Antalya city and Konyaalti: about 45 km, 50-65 minutes
• Lara and Kundu: about 70 km, 1 hour 10 to 1 hour 25
• Belek: about 85 km, 1 hour 20 to 1 hour 40
• Side and Manavgat: about 115 km, 1 hour 45 to 2 hours 15
• Alanya: about 175 km, 2 hours 45 to 3 hours 15

If you are staying in Side or Alanya, be realistic. A Kemer charter from Alanya means leaving before 06:30 and getting back after 20:00. From those resorts the sensible plan is a charter out of Kaleici or Setur, or a half-day boat, or - if you have set your heart on the national park bays - an overnight in Kemer.

The advantage of chartering the whole boat is that the departure time follows you. If your transfer is delayed on the Alanya road, the boat waits. That is not true of a shared boat, which sails without you.

The Antalya charter season runs from April to late October, with a shoulder either side depending on the year.

Sea temperature in the Gulf of Antalya runs from about 17°C in the coldest part of winter to 28-29°C in July and August. Practically, most visitors find the water comfortable from late May through October: low twenties in May, mid twenties by June, peak warmth in July and August, still 25-27°C through September and around 23-25°C in October.

May, June, September and early October are the best months to charter. Water is warm, the bays are not crowded, the boats are not fully booked, and the air is bearable when you are standing on a white deck at midday. July and August give you the hottest weather and the warmest sea, but also the most traffic in the popular bays and the tightest availability - book those months well ahead.

On wind: the Gulf of Antalya sits outside the main Meltemi belt that hammers the Aegean, so conditions here are generally gentler. What you get instead is a thermal cycle. Mornings are usually flat calm, a light breeze fills in around mid-morning, it builds through the early afternoon, peaks around 16:00, then drops as the land cools. This is the practical reason to take a morning departure if anyone in the group is prone to seasickness or if you want mirror-flat water for photographs. It is also why charters occasionally get moved or postponed on genuinely windy days - the captain makes that call, and we will offer you a different date or a refund rather than send you out in slop.

Swimwear worn under your clothes so you are not queuing for a changing space, a towel even though most boats provide them, high-factor reef-safe sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses with a strap, a light long-sleeved shirt or cover-up for the middle of the day, and a dry bag or ziplock for your phone. Bring more water than you think - the sea air dehydrates people faster than they expect.

Deck shoes or bare feet only; hard soles and dark rubber are unwelcome on a teak or painted deck. If you snorkel regularly, bring your own mask - loaner masks fit adults reasonably and children badly. Bring seasickness tablets if you are unsure and take them forty-five minutes before boarding, not when you already feel it. Bring cash in small notes for the crew tip if you want to leave one. Bring a light jacket for a sunset charter - the temperature drop once the sun goes is real.

Leave behind: glass bottles, anything you cannot get wet, and drones unless you have cleared it with us in advance, because parts of the Kemer coast fall inside a national park.

Private charter is the family-friendly option in Antalya, and by a wide margin. You anchor where the kids can stand, you eat when they are hungry, you go home when they have had enough.

Two things to organise before you book. First, child-size life jackets. Turkish commercial boats are required to carry adult life vests, but child sizes are not always part of standard inventory - tell us the ages and weights of the children in your group and we will confirm in writing that correctly sized jackets are on the boat. Second, shade. Ask for a boat with a fixed hard top or a proper bimini rather than an open cruiser if you have babies or toddlers.

Sunset charters are lovely for adults but less good with infants, because the return leg is in the dark and small children get cold and bored. Take a morning half day instead.

On accessibility: boarding is over a passerelle or side gate onto a moving deck, so genuine step-free access is not possible on most vessels. Some larger motor yachts at Setur have wide, low boarding gates and a crew that can assist, and the marina itself is flat and vehicle-accessible right up to the quay, which Kaleici is not. If mobility is a factor, tell us specifically what the person can and cannot do and we will find a boat and a berth that works, or tell you honestly that it will not.

Walk along Kaleici harbour on an August afternoon and several people will offer you a boat. Some of them are excellent. Some of them are selling a boat they do not represent, at a price they invented for your nationality, with no paperwork.

Confirm the details in writing before you pay: boat name, capacity, departure marina and time, hours on the water, what lunch consists of, whether alcohol is included or bring-your-own, and the transfer vehicle and pickup point. Plan the day around the boat, not the other way round. Do not book a charter on your arrival day or your departure day. Do not schedule a hammam, a dinner reservation and a charter into the same twelve hours. A full-day charter is the day - treat it that way and it will be the part of the holiday everyone talks about afterwards.
