The Chimera (Yanartaş in Turkish — "Burning Stone") natural eternal flames are one of Turkey's most mysterious natural wonders — methane gas seeping from rocks on the Çıralı mountainside, ignited by ancient travelers and burning continuously for thousands of years. Combined with the nearby Olympos ancient ruins (Roman-Lycian harbor city scattered through pine forest and a river), this is one of southern Turkey's most atmospheric evening experiences. WeCare runs the chauffeured evening with sunset hike timing.
What the Evening Looks Like
16:00 — Hotel pickup. Chauffeur in your hotel lobby. Mercedes V-Class for the 75-minute drive.
16:00-17:15 — Drive Antalya → Çıralı. 80 km via D400 west through Kemer, Tekirova, then turn onto the Çıralı access road (final 7 km is a winding mountain road through pine forest).
17:15-18:30 — Olympos ancient ruins walk. Roman-Lycian harbor city scattered through pine forest along a small stream. Walk through ruins — Roman bathhouse, Lycian temple foundations, harbor wall, Olympos beach (where Saint Nicholas was supposedly born). Atmospheric and photogenic in late-afternoon light. Site entry 200 TRY.
18:30-19:30 — Drive to Chimera trailhead + hike up. Short drive from Olympos to Chimera trailhead (4 km). The hike up to the flames is 800m of moderate uphill on a rocky path — allow 25-30 minutes. Hiking shoes recommended; flashlight helpful for the return down.
19:30-20:30 — Chimera flames experience. Multiple flame patches across the mountainside, varying in intensity. Best viewing 30-90 minutes after sunset (the flames become more dramatic against the dark sky). Take time for photography (long exposure or slow shutter recommended).
20:30-21:00 — Hike back down to vehicle.
21:00-22:30 — Optional dinner stop. Çıralı village or Kemer waterfront restaurants for late dinner. Or skip and drive back to hotel.
22:30-00:00 — Drive back to Antalya. Arrive at hotel ~midnight.
