Ten minutes past the last hotel the tarmac stops and the Taurus foothills take over: gravel tracks, dry riverbeds, pine shade and the kind of dust cloud that is the entire point of the exercise. A quad is the honest way to see this landscape. It is slow enough that you notice the goats and the irrigation channels, and rough enough that you get back looking like you actually did something.

You ride a four-wheel ATV over mountain backroads, forest trails and riverbeds, and through traditional villages where children wave and, in high summer, may well throw water at you. The terrain mixes loose gravel, packed earth and shallow water crossings, which is why these machines are built for low-speed grip rather than outright speed.

The safari is designed for beginners and experienced riders together. Before anything moves there is a full safety briefing covering throttle, brake, body position and how to take a corner without lifting an inside wheel. Helmets and goggles are handed out and worn.
