Western Anatolia in Three Days

Everything worth seeing in western Anatolia sits too far from Antalya to do well in a single day, and most people who try end up with eight hours in a car and ninety minutes on a site. Three days changes the arithmetic entirely.

Western Anatolia is the densest stretch of classical archaeology in Turkey. Greek and Roman cities were built here on trade wealth, abandoned when harbours silted up, and left standing because nobody needed the land afterwards. Add to that a landscape of hot springs and mineral terraces, Aegean hill villages built by Greek communities before the population exchanges of the 1920s, and a food culture based on olive oil rather than the butter and meat of the interior.

Distance. The famous sites are separated by hours of road, and a single-day version means choosing one and sprinting. Over three days you arrive at sites early or late rather than at the crowded middle of the day, you sleep somewhere near where you are exploring, and you get evenings in towns that most visitors only pass through.
